Caring For Your Lace Wig

Lace wigs are becoming more and more popular and are a great way to get that glamorous look. Human hair hand tied on lace base one strand at a time is the best way to have your hair looking as natural as possible with a style that you’ve always desired. Although they are popular, lace wigs are the centre of many myths and legends and some people are often put off. But, have a further read to find out exactly how to care for them and whether they are a good choice for you.

Real Hair by Clara are offering our customers a fantastic lace wig sample sale starting in December. Don’t miss out! www.rhbcuk.com/signup

Daily Care
To avoid the hair matting or becoming tangled it is important to ensure you are using the right tools. Your wig needs to be cared for and in the right way.  For example, a brush that is specific for lace wigs should be top of your list. If you use a comb, make sure it is wide toothed to allow for the knots to be detangled gently rather than aggressively. But, comb and brush your hair only when necessary. Excessive brushing and combing can cause the hair to shred or break just as it would with your natural hair. Your natural hair grows back, your wig will not! Also, try to wear a silk cap or bonnet when you go to bed as this will keep it from tangling and getting matted during the night.

Washing your Wig
When washing your wig, make sure this is done whilst its placed on a head block, not whilst still on your head. First, it is suggested you spray the wig with warm clean water and detangle the hair by combing gently through any knots or matted areas. Then, you can begin to wash the wig fully by rinsing the hair and applying a small amount of shampoo. Once the shampoo is thoroughly rinsed out, repeat if necessary. Allow the hair to air dry on the wig head block overnight or if you’re in desperate need, blow dry the hair but on the VERY lowest setting. Overnight air dry is preferable.

Styling your Wig
You may be used to blow drying your natural hair, but when it comes to your lace wig, it’s important to stay away. Quite obviously the heat can damage the wig just as it would with your natural hair but more importantly, the heat from the blow dryer can cause the lace mesh to shrink. Undoubtedly this is going to cause a few problems. If you do need to blow dry, do this sparingly and on a low setting. It’s always going to be tempting to use straighteners and tongs, which is fine, but as you would with your natural hair, ALWAYS use a heat protector.

Caring for your natural hair
Although it’s important to care for and maintain your lace wigs, don’t neglect your natural hair as this is YOURS. If possible, try to remove your wig every 2 weeks so that your hair and scalp is hygienic and does not become irritated. In this time, shampoo and condition your hair thoroughly to maintain its health. Dryness and dandruff can often be a battle when wearing lace wigs so oil your scalp regularly to combat this. It’s also important to make sure your natural hair is fully dry before applying your wig.
Look out for next week’s post where I will be uncovering the myths and truths of lace wigs and how to spot a good one and a bad one from a mile off!

Fancy a Change ??

Do you wake up some mornings and look in the mirror thinking ‘I want a change’? Are you a fan of changing your hairstyle on a regular basis but not sure how? Fear not, we can provide you with an easy solution. Real Hair by Clara has a great range of extensions so you can change your hair whenever and however you like. It’s easy, affordable and a perfect solution for those of you that are always looking to keep up with the latest hairstyle trends just like the celebs. They will be wearing long flattering curls one night and a short bob the next. You too can be just like them.

Jessie J is a prime example of sporting a dramatic change in hairstyle. Jessie J (Jessica Cornish) is undoubtedly a huge style icon in the showbiz world and there’s no surprise why. She is a truly talented recording artist who is infamous for her bold but beautiful looks. Her statement fringe has dominated and become known worldwide over the past 12 months. But, at the Glamour Awards earlier this year in London, Jessie proved she could not only do it like a dude but also like a gorgeous girly. She surprised us all when she ditched her statement fringe and bob for a long, soft and wavy style with a 1940’s pin up twist. Although a dramatic change, she still looked as stunning as ever.  This proves that you guys too can dare to be different!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLZVftdEArU check out this video of Jessie J looking glam and girlie at the Glamour Awards earlier this year!

Do you find your hair too flat and straight? Give your a hair a bit of bounce by applying Flex Extend Deep Wavy for extra volume and a glamorous look like Jessie J.  Or for tighter curls you may opt for the Flex Extend Spiral Curl. Rewind back to the 40’s like Tulisa for a hot trendy style and sport a sleek side parting with a fringe that’s tucked to the side. With lengths ranging from 12” to 20” you can decide if you want to go for long waves or mid length waves. Jessie J again proves how easy this is as not only does she change her outfit twice but also her hair at this year’s MTV EMA awards in Belfast. Posing for the cameras first in mid length beautiful bouncy curls and then returning to her statement sleek bob and bold fringe, all in one night!

Curls can be worn in different ways and if you fancy a more sophisticated look, take a leaf out of reality TV star Lauren Conrad’s book. One of her most common looks is the casual ponytail, often worn at the side with a curly/wavy twist. This is another look that’s also easy to achieve. At Real hair by Clara, we have different types of Instant Pony Tails at various lengths and colours that you can use to create a chic and classy look. For a refined style, curl the hair for loose and bouncy curls. Or if you’d prefer, you could aim for a classic pony that sits at the back of the head like Beyonce rather than the side.

Our great range of Flex Extend, Remy and Indian Virgin Extensions can also be useful to create different looks such as the ‘fishtail’ worn by the likes of Tulisa and Leona Lewis.  Gather your hair to the side and separate into 3 sections so you are able to begin plaiting. This can be done either loosely or tightly. Then just before you reach the length of the hair, tie with a band and for a tousled, bed hair finish, pull out a few strand here and there. However, for a tighter finish like Tulisa, apply hairspray to ensure a long lasting plait.

Winter Hair Care

It’s that time your hair’s been dreading all year, winter is finally here! These next few months your hair will be up against strong gusty winds disturbing your styles and drizzly rain encouraging extra frizz. But fear not, this winter you can sit back and relax and give your hair something to look forward to this Christmas. A chance to breathe and shine! Take a read of these top tips on keeping your hair

Use heat less
Don’t be tempted to use those tongs and straighteners as winter is a great time to wear your hair natural. Using too much heat on your hair can cause breakage and your hair is even more prone to this in cold conditions. Be courageous and wear your hair natural simply using moisturising sprays or lotions to keep your hair conditioned. If you can, aim to let your hair dry naturally instead of blow drying. The less heat you hair and scalp has to deal with the better!

Deep conditioning
the cold weather of the winter months means that your hair is more prone to breakage and dryness. Therefore, it’s important to keep your hair moisturised and nourished on a regular basis. ‘Replenishing’ conditioners will deeply moisturise and is great for tackling the chilled outdoors. Avoid breakage further and use a wide toothed comb to detangle which is less aggressive on your hair.

Tackling dry scalp
Massage on a regular basis allows oils to stimulate. Wear a hat or cap to protect your hair and scalp from the chilled temperatures. Although, make sure it is not worn tightly where circulation in the scalp is restricted. It may also be an idea to wear a silk or satin scarf underneath your hat as sometimes the materials can be tough on your hair. If your scalp becomes excessively flaky, apply natural oils directly on the scalp which will prevent dryness.

Wash and wet less
Avoid going out with damp hair. Ensure that your hair is fully dry before setting off outside. In cold weather conditions, the hair can freeze slightly which is prone to breakage. When washing, use a separate shampoo and conditioner, 2 in 1 solutions are not particularly great for hair prone to dryness, especially in winter conditions. During these periods, aim to wash your hair less frequently and only when necessary. This is normally once every 5-7days.

Protective styles
if you’re not brave enough to wear your hair natural there are other styles you can try perfect for the winter. For example, wearing buns and ponies require little maintenance but be aware not to have these tight. It’s also an idea to take down the style each night and gently moisturise which will ease your hair and will be healthier and shiner ready for the next morning. Braids are also a desired style for the winter although ensure that you use braid spray regularly to condition and nourish.

Care for your Hair

Whether your hair extensions are for those special occasions or just for everyday wear, it’s always important that they look the part. Ensure your hair is looking picture perfect 24/7 is not always easy and I’m sure there’s plenty of us that’s had to suffer one of those dreaded bad hair days. But don’t worry, don’t stress! Take a moment to have a read thorough a few of these helpful tips that will keep your hair at its best.

Maintenance & Control
Just like your normal hair, your extensions WILL need regular care and treatment. It’s important to make sure you attend to them on regular occasions. Maintaining them shouldn’t be a chore, but just like any luxury, you do need to put in that little bit of time and effort. To keep the hair healthy, there a number of products available that you can choose from which will make sure that the quality remains consistent. For example, Real Hair by Clara Leave in Protein Spray allows you to easily feed your hair with all the nutrients it needs just by gently spraying the hair on a regular basis. As well as keeping the hair healthy, try to use a professional hair extension brush with Nylon bristles so that it brushes the hair gently rather than aggressively like a normal brush. Also, with weaves and lace wigs, it’s recommended that you visit your hair stylist at least once a month to keep your hair looking
perfect.

Washing your Hair
it’s important to keep your hair clean and fresh. Dirt and sweat built up will cause dryness. Before, washing, brush your hair first to detangle. If the hair is matted, start brushing from bottom and then work your way up. Aim to wash in a downwards motion and gradually wet the hair. When ready to begin the wash, apply Real Hair by Clara Extensions Revitalising Shampoo and massage gently throughout all of the hair. Rinse through thoroughly and then use Revitalising Conditioner to prevent dryness.

Sleeping in your Hair
It’s often best to tie your hair in a bun or pony with a soft scrunchie that won’t pull too tight on the hair. Always brush and detangle your hair before setting under the duvets and on the pillow, it will be easier to manage in the morning. And of course, if you are washing your hair late at night, ensure that your hair is 100% dry. Never sleep with damp hair.

Styling & Applying Heat
the fact that you have chosen to wear hair extensions suggests that you have selected the hair based on the style or look that you want to achieve, so re-styling the hair may not always be a regular task. However, for those of you that do enjoy the frequent change, there are a few things you must always remember. Always apply a heat protection spray (Real Hair by Clara Blow dry Spray) before applying any straightening or curling tongs. This protects from the scorching temperatures that your hair doesn’t always enjoy meeting with. Too much heat can do a lot of damage and causes breakage and dryness just like your own hair has to fight with.

It’s not that hard and it’s not that tiring. Just a few extra steps here and there that you need to take to make sure your hair is kept fresh and flawless. Invest in good quality products and take those extra 5 minutes and you’ll be walking with a smile on your face and head held high, whatever the weather!

London Fashion Week, Fashions Finest Exclusive Show, 17th September

With London fashion week being one of the biggest fashion events of the year, you can imagine the excitement of the Real Hair by Clara team for being involved in yet another fantastic opportunity. After such a great success at Africa Fashion Week London, the team were looking forward to even better styles and looks which would be fit for the catwalk at Fashions Finest exclusive runway show.

Although the rain outside was pouring in true September style, the atmosphere inside the glamorous Westbury Hotel, Mayfair was far from miserable. Spectators were filling up seats and the press had their cameras ready preparing them for the treat that waited ahead of them.

The show celebrated some of the best of the UK’s up and coming designers with some impressive collections that had inspirations from all over the globe. For example, extravagant and vibrant looks representing Ghana and Nigeria were on show, as well as modern and sophisticated looks inspired from the US of A. Jose Hendo, Kiki Clothing, Marie Macsharry and Lesego Mzansi were among the talented designers as well as a gorgeous collaborated collection from Richelle Dynae and Aura E.

With such great collections, Real Hair by Clara was in charge of making sure that the looks they created were spot on. And with the success of Africa Fashion Week under our belts, we were confident that the team would impress. Applying the instant fringe was one of the main looks emphasized throughout the show and you can see these on the models in the pictures below. It did well to compliment a wide range of the looks created by the designers across the collections and also suited many of the models.

After a stunning show of some very talented designers, spectators were certainly impressed and were keen to find out more from the exhibitors. The Real Hair by Clara stand remained popular throughout the afternoon and evening especially when visitors learnt that we were the stylists for the show. Great interest was shown in the company, our products as well as the team. It is easy to conclude that it was a very successful evening and a brilliant way for Fashions Finest and Real Hair by Clara to celebrate London Fashion Week and the talent of some very talented designers with stunning collections.
